Dictation (Voice to Text)

Quick Start

1. Set Up Requirements

Before using Dictation, ensure:

  • ✓ You have a valid license key configured

  • ✓ Your microphone has permission to record (especially important on macOS)

2. Find Your Hotkey

The default hotkey depends on your operating system:

macOS

Alt + D

Windows/Linux

Ctrl + D

3. Start Dictating

  1. Click in the text field where you want your transcription to appear

  2. Press your hotkey to start recording

  3. Speak clearly into your microphone

  4. Press your hotkey again to stop recording and transcribe

  5. Wait for processing to complete

  6. Your text will either be copied to clipboard or pasted directly (depending on your settings)

If you start recording by mistake, press ESC to cancel without transcribing.

Troubleshooting

Dictation Doesn't Start

Check:

  • Is Voice enabled in Settings?

  • Is your license key configured?

  • Are you using the correct hotkey? (Alt+D on Mac, Ctrl+D on Windows/Linux)

  • Is another app using the same hotkey?

Microphone Not Working

Check:

  • Does Triplo have microphone permission?

    • macOS: System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Microphone → Enable Triplo

    • Windows/Linux: Check app permissions in your OS settings

  • Is your microphone working in other apps?

  • Is your microphone plugged in and turned on?

Text Not Appearing

Check:

  • Is your cursor in the correct text field?

  • Is "Copy Results" enabled? If so, paste the text manually (Ctrl+V or Cmd+V)

  • Check the indicator window (macOS) for error status (red)

Wrong Hotkey Is Triggering Dictation

Solution:

  • Open Settings → Dictation Hotkey

  • Change to a hotkey that isn't used by other applications

  • Common conflicts: Alt+D (Windows), Cmd+D (macOS)

Tips for Best Results

  • Speak clearly and at a normal pace — don't rush or mumble

  • Use natural pauses between sentences — helps with punctuation

  • Minimize background noise — find a quiet environment when possible

  • Test your microphone first — record a short test in Voice Memos or similar app

  • Keep sessions short — dictate in chunks rather than long continuous recordings
